"All hail IHOP! a refuge in times of…"
IHOP has become my refuge in times of despair and sorrow, when lesser restaurants psychotically demand I keep my face covered EXCEPT when it's the actual moment I must take a bite of food, or a sip of drink, and if it isn't, I'd better keep that muzz--I mean mask on, or "we can't serve you!"
"No, that's incorrect," I finally told this babe, quite coldly.
"What's incorrect," she said rather nervously, seeming to look closely to see if I had some weapon I was going to whip out to make my point better.
"You CAN serve me, you just WON'T serve me, without the muzz--mask." It's "we won't serve you," not "we can't serve you," I informed her haughtily.
She took this to mean "F you," apparently, by her expression, which I thought was only right, since that was how I had taken "We can't serve you," and why wouldn't I? I mean, how...cold? callous? alienating? a statement is THAT, I ask you?
If I ever had a moment of feeling that I might actually "go postal," if you catch my drift---it was the last time I heard words to that effect, being said to ME, a very good customer, but now somehow demoted and involuntarily devolved into a one-celled animal whose only relevant appendage was my muz---mask, and otherwise, I better not let the door hit me in the gluteus maximus on my way out!
So, I didn't. I will miss that restaurant.
But I will console myself with IHOP, because IHOP is staffed by human beings, rather than body-snatched pod people who at any moment will turn around on me and give that horrifying screech a' la Donald Sutherland, if they detect a slippage of my muzz---well you know.
IHOP has the best pancakes, because they're made with buttermilk, and it does make quite the difference. They also have the only edible blueberry syrup I've ever run across (in my journeys across America seeking syrups up hill and down dale), and they also play the best Muzakmusic in town. I mean, it's 80's, it's rock, it's Beatles, it's Pink Floyd Learning to Fly at 10am Sunday morning!
and it's at the right volume. Am I beginning to sound slavishly happy? Not yet? Let me keep on then...
It's true I eat there a lot, because I'm one of those people that when I like a certain thing to eat, I will eat it every time I go out, for years, or until I get tired of it, whichever happens. But it's just very comfortable, and they know what to bring to drink when I get there, and they're just the nicest.
During this recent...Debacle? Outrage? Hysterical overreaction?, there was that sort of suspended in disbelief period where nobody knew what to do, and then IHOP was the first place that DARED to allow customers back into the restaurant to pick up their carry-out-only food, and I appreciated that a LOT, because I was really weirded out, and these places were making it even worse by suddenly acting as if I had cooties! It's all that stupid governor's fault, but I digress.
Then they were among the first, if not THE first, to actually have us come eat there again. They were the first to give us back our silverware, and they were never Mask Nazis, and always SO nice, even while being forced to wear their own muzz---I mean masks! 24/7, running around waiting tables! OMG!!
The latest was when the dipsh*t governor decided to put us in a "pause" (don't you love the innocuous names they come up with when they're destroying your lives), so he decreed that now, restaurants needed to have you make a reservation first, even if there was nobody in there. Churches needed reservations too, and still do, and that's totally unforgiveable, even Confession won't help them there, but I digress.
So I sat down in the mostly empty place, and hollered at them that I needed a reservation, table for one, and we were laughing, because it's so stupid. They're still doing this reservation thing--!--two weeks later. I wish I owned a business so I could defy the governor in a respectable yet violent way he would truly appreciate...but I digress.
Thank you, IHOP, because for many years you have unfailingly given me great meals, comfy atmosphere, convenient locations, and ...constancy and reassurance that the world is still here. I feel so terribly, terribly sorry for businesses, and those who work in them (when they're allowed by Caesar) that I have been heedlessly overtipping the servers AND LOVING IT, because it's what I can do for them, and it makes me feel somewhat better, and seems to do the same for them, so that's good for me, and I recommend it to everyone else, as well. Thanks IHOP, I'll be back, always.

"IHOP in Bethlehem"
IHOP in Bethlehem, GA is SUPER FANTASTIC!!!! The employees are extremely respectful and nice, every time I visit there and they have even went out of their way to make me happy and special! I have not ever ate inside but I do pick up my orders inside and one night a couple of teenagers who were getting ready for closing, told me I needed to come in and eat sometime, and I kinda shrugged and said But I don’t want to eat alone - and without thought the pair said “We will eat with you, ma’am you don’t have to sit alone we would be happy to join you!”
In this day and time, the gaps and separations between adults and teenagers is so heartbreaking, but to have these empathetic teens, working, going to high school, juggling all that they do, but still found a moment to make me feel so honored and so happy inside- I will remember forever!!! They may have an outsider look to the employees but do not judge, they have hearts, they are people and they do their jobs and beyond - IM A SUPER FAN AND I LIVE IHOP!!!!!!!!
